Ukrainian Foreign Ministry’s Response to the Accusations
During a briefing in Kyiv, Georgiy Tikhiy emphasized that the Ukrainian side would not have commented on this matter had it not been for the journalists’ inquiries, as such accusations from the Hungarian authorities are made regularly and are becoming increasingly absurd.
“We see an anti-Ukrainian hysteria emanating from Viktor Orban, his government, and his officials. It has nothing to do with reality.”
According to the spokesperson, Kyiv regrets observing this trend, as it negatively impacts bilateral relations between the countries. Tikhiy stressed that Ukraine is “very sorry” for such developments, which complicate dialogue between the states.
Ukraine Ready for Dialogue with Budapest
Georgiy Tikhiy also noted that restoring trust between Kyiv and Budapest may take considerable time; however, Ukraine is determined not to worsen the state of relations and seeks improvement. He stated that the Ukrainian side is open to discussing all problematic issues with Hungary, and negotiations regarding EU accession are an important platform for such dialogue.
It is worth recalling that on October 10, Viktor Orban claimed that Ukrainian intelligence allegedly collaborates with the opposition Hungarian party Tisza to influence Hungary’s domestic politics. On his account on X, he wrote: “Ukrainians are already in your smartphones,” adding that the government will not leave this situation unattended.
Parliamentary elections in Hungary are scheduled for April 2026.
