Turkey – A Strategic Partner in the Dialogue for Peace
Turkey continues to play an important role as a key partner of Ukraine and remains one of the main platforms for international dialogue on security and peace issues. Following the meeting, Rustem Umerov reported to the President of Ukraine on the agreements reached and the next steps for cooperation.
“We discussed the security situation, the progress of negotiation processes, and the coordination of further steps. As always, special attention was given to the humanitarian track and the issues of returning our people. Turkey is an important partner for Ukraine and one of the key platforms for dialogue. We continue to work in close cooperation. Following the meeting, I reported to the President of Ukraine”
Preparation for International Negotiations Involving World Leaders
The meeting between Umerov and Fidan took place ahead of important international events – on January 3, negotiations among national security advisors from the ‘Coalition of the Willing’ countries are set to occur, and on January 6, leader-level talks are planned in Paris. These steps are aimed at strengthening international cooperation to achieve sustainable peace for Ukraine.
Earlier, on December 29, negotiations took place in Florida between U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, lasting over two hours. Following this, the leaders held a phone conversation with several European heads of state.
The President of Ukraine emphasized that during the negotiations in the U.S., the parties discussed all the details of the peace framework and achieved significant results, as well as determined the next sequence of actions. Next week, delegations from the U.S. and Ukraine plan to meet to finalize agreements on security guarantees for Ukraine.
French President Emmanuel Macron, who also joined the conversation with Zelensky and Trump, reported progress on security guarantees, which, according to him, will be crucial for building a just and lasting peace. He announced a meeting of representatives from the ‘Coalition of the Willing’ in Paris in early January, where the specific contributions of each country to support Ukraine are expected to be finalized.
