Decision to Restore Broadcasts
At the beginning of September, the parliament made the decision to return to live broadcasts of sessions. The corresponding resolution was supported by 266 members of parliament. This was reported by representatives of various factions, including Yaroslav Zheleznyak from the “Holos” faction and Oleksiy Honcharenko from the “European Solidarity” faction.
“However, they refused to resume the broadcast today. Therefore, ‘Rada’ will only start operating from mid-September,” Zheleznyak wrote on Telegram on September 4.
Preconditions and Chronology of Events
The decision to suspend online broadcasts of Verkhovna Rada sessions was first made on February 24, 2022, for security reasons following the onset of the full-scale invasion by the Russian Federation. Since then, parliamentary sessions have been held without open video broadcasts for the public.
However, on July 31, 2025, during the discussion on restoring the powers of NABU and SAP, the broadcast was resumed for a separate session. Prior to this, over fifty civil organizations and media outlets had appealed to parliament demanding the return of online broadcasts starting from the next session after July 31.
The resumption of open broadcasts of Verkhovna Rada sessions has become an important step towards ensuring transparency in the parliament’s work and providing citizens with access to information about the country’s legislative activities.
