Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced a planned meeting with Donald Trump, set to take place on October 17 in the United States.

Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed the upcoming meeting during a joint press conference with the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell. According to the President, the previous two phone conversations with Donald Trump were constructive, but they were insufficient for a comprehensive discussion of pressing security issues and cooperation.
“We had two (phone) conversations with President Trump. We discussed Russian attacks on our energy sector, civilian infrastructure, and we talked about air defense issues… We also discussed Ukraine’s new long-range capabilities,” said Volodymyr Zelensky.
The President emphasized that the goal of the upcoming meeting is to strengthen cooperation with the U.S. in the areas of air defense and the development of Ukraine’s long-range capabilities to increase pressure on Russia in pursuit of peace.
Delegation and Additional Meetings
The Ukrainian delegation, which has already departed for the U.S., includes Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, Head of the President’s Office Andriy Yermak, and Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umerov. In addition to the meeting with Donald Trump, Zelensky has planned talks with representatives of defense and energy companies, as well as possible meetings with American senators and congressmen.
“There will also be several other important meetings – with defense companies, and possible meetings with senators and congressmen. I will also meet with energy companies. This is necessary – it was President Trump’s proposal, – and I will meet with the companies because there are current needs due to various formats of attacks, not just those attacks that Russia has already carried out… Thus, the main topics of the visit are air defense and our long-range capabilities to exert pressure on Russia for the sake of peace,” the Head of State reported on Telegram.
According to the Head of State, the meeting with American partners will allow for discussions on further support for Ukraine amid the ongoing aggression of the Russian Federation and ensuring the stable operation of the energy infrastructure.
