Educational institutions in Kyiv are facing a severe problem with the supply of generators, complicating the operation of schools and kindergartens amid regular power outages.
This is reported by Kyiv24
In recent weeks, children in the capital’s schools and kindergartens have been without hot meals due to a lack of backup power. Parents are being forced to bring food from home, and kitchen staff have to work in extreme conditions, sometimes even sleeping at work to provide children with minimal meals.
Discrepancies in Data and Unpreparedness for Crisis Situations
Journalists conducted their own investigation into the supply of generators to educational institutions. It turned out that some equipment is not only missing but also partially “disappears” from official reports. The scale of discrepancies between purchases and official statements has proven significant.
“According to our calculations, part of the equipment – generators – is not just missing; some items completely ‘disappear’ from official data. The scale of discrepancies between purchases and official reports has been astonishing,” the journalists state.
Journalists emphasize that the Kyiv City State Administration (KCSA) lacks a clear understanding of how many educational institutions are operating in the city and which of them are equipped with generators. The absence of reliable data is confirmed by the city mayor Vitaliy Klitschko and his deputies.
Impact on Children and Educators
Due to the lack of generators, educational institutions in Kyiv are unprepared for prolonged power outages. This forces the management of these institutions to adapt to emergency conditions, negatively affecting the quality of food and the educational process. Many parents are concerned, as their children have to eat food brought from home, while cafeteria staff work overtime to at least partially provide children with hot meals.

The question remains open as to when the capital will be able to fully equip its educational institutions with the necessary equipment for the safety and comfort of children during crisis situations.
