“We talked about options for achieving true peace, the stages of work and dialogue formats, as well as new impulses for diplomacy. Our teams – Ukraine and the US – will work on the points of the plan to end the war. We are ready for constructive, honest, and prompt work,” Zelensky stated.
During the meeting, Zelensky specifically informed the American official about the recent missile attack by Russia on Ternopil using an X-101 missile. The President noted that the missile was manufactured this year and contained 175 foreign components that continue to enter Russia bypassing international sanctions.
Zelensky also provided Driscoll with detailed materials about the companies producing critical parts, the countries of their origin, and the components themselves, noting that Ukraine relies on US support to stop illegal supply schemes.
Joint Efforts to Strengthen Security
During the negotiations, the president emphasized that Ukraine values the efforts of international partners to restore security in Europe. He highlighted that the Ukrainian state defends its independence and the lives of its citizens thanks to the courage of its people, the unity of society, and the support of allies, stressing the need to strengthen all these elements.
According to the President’s Office, Volodymyr Zelensky received from US representatives a draft plan that, in the opinion of the American side, could serve as a catalyst for activating diplomatic efforts to end the war. During the visit of the Pentagon delegation, led by US Army Secretary Daniel Driscoll, a series of meetings with Ukrainian military and political leadership are planned.
American Peace Plan: Key Details and Kyiv’s Position
Media reports indicate that the key goal of the American delegation is to engage the Ukrainian side in the peace process with Russia. According to Western media, the administration of US President Donald Trump held closed consultations with Russia regarding a new plan to cease hostilities on Ukrainian territory.
According to information from The Financial Times, Reuters, and Axios, the plan developed in the US stipulates that Kyiv must agree to relinquish part of its territory and armaments, reduce the size of its Armed Forces, and decrease the volume of US military assistance. The conditions also include a ban on the presence of foreign troops on Ukrainian territory and the cessation of supplies of long-range weapons. What specific concessions Moscow must make has not yet been disclosed.
Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko also met with Driscoll during his first official visit to Kyiv.
