Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced an agreement to hold a meeting with United States President Donald Trump. The head of state reported this on December 26, emphasizing that dialogue with the American side is ongoing.

Preparation for Key Negotiations

Zelensky noted that the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, Rustem Umerov, informed him about the latest contacts between Kyiv and Washington. According to the president, the parties have already agreed to organize a meeting at the highest level. Zelensky highlighted the importance of this step, stating that

“not a single day is wasted. We have agreed on a meeting at the highest level – with President Trump in the near future.”

The head of state also suggested that key issues related to security and Ukraine’s future could be resolved before the New Year. Meanwhile, Donald Trump has not made any official statements regarding plans for a meeting with Zelensky.

Seeking Paths to a Peace Agreement

During a conversation with journalists on December 23, Volodymyr Zelensky presented a draft peace agreement with 20 points, which representatives from the U.S., Ukraine, and European countries have been working on in recent weeks. In particular, the document addresses security guarantees for Ukraine, measures for reconstruction, and a basic framework for ending the Russo-Ukrainian war.

In recent weeks, the United States has intensified efforts to achieve a peace agreement between Kyiv and Moscow. Negotiations involving delegations from both countries took place in Miami, where several draft documents were prepared. At the same time, representatives from Russia met with the American team in Miami; however, according to the Kremlin, these negotiations should not be considered a breakthrough.
