Zelensky: No decisions regarding Ukraine can be made without its participation

Зеленський анонсував нові санкції щодо тих, хто допомагає Росії вести війну

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized that decisions about Ukraine’s future cannot be made at negotiations between the presidents of the United States and Russia without the direct involvement of the Ukrainian side. The head of state stressed that the planned meeting between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin in Alaska, scheduled for August 15, concerns only the bilateral relations between the United States and the Russian Federation and cannot determine Ukraine’s future.

Zelensky emphasized the unacceptability of decisions made without Ukraine

“It is impossible to talk about Ukraine without Ukraine, and no one will accept that. Therefore, the conversation may be important for their bilateral track, but they cannot make any decisions about Ukraine without us. I hope the U.S. president understands and takes this into account,” Zelensky said in a speech at the “Youth Here” forum, which was broadcast by his office.

Volodymyr Zelensky reported that the possibility of holding a trilateral meeting between the presidents of the United States, Ukraine, and Russia is being considered. However, according to the president, the exact date of this event has not yet been determined.

The territorial integrity of Ukraine remains inviolable

On August 11, Donald Trump suggested the possibility of some “territorial exchanges” between Ukraine and Russia, which caused dissatisfaction among the Ukrainian leadership due to the need for constitutional approval of such actions. At the same time, according to The Wall Street Journal, Vladimir Putin informed Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff of his readiness for a complete ceasefire only if Ukrainian troops withdraw from the Donetsk region. Meanwhile, a source from The Washington Post reported that Putin has not renounced claims to the occupied territories of the Kherson and Zaporizhia regions.

Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine will not concede its territories to the Russian Federation. Neither he nor European leaders were invited to the summit in the United States, but the U.S. presidential administration and Donald Trump maintain communication with Ukraine and European partners. A group video conference is scheduled for August 13 at the initiative of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, which will involve representatives from the United States, Ukraine, and European countries.
