Context: Cooperation with NATO and Security Situation
Earlier, President Zelensky met with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. During the negotiations, the parties discussed issues related to prisoner exchanges and the return of deceased Ukrainians, which were raised at the meeting in Istanbul. The president noted that despite important agreements, “Russia did not support either an unconditional ceasefire or negotiations between Ukraine and Russia at the highest level.”
“We had a meeting with the NATO Secretary General. We were invited to the NATO summit. I think this is important,” Zelensky said on June 2 during a conversation with journalists via Zoom.
The summit in The Hague is expected to provide new momentum for cooperation between Ukraine and NATO member countries, as well as serve as a platform for discussing further steps regarding security in the region.
