Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky held meetings on June 2 with Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo and Polish President Andrzej Duda on the sidelines of the summit in Vilnius. During the negotiations, issues of military-technical cooperation, investments in arms production, and further support for Ukraine from partners were discussed.

Finland: Focus on Investments in Weapons Production
During the dialogue with the head of the Finnish government, the parties paid special attention to investments in the development of the Ukrainian defense sector and joint weapons production. President Zelensky reported that he presented the Finnish side with the “Drone Line” project, which has already proven its effectiveness on the battlefield. The parties also discussed opportunities to scale this project to enhance Ukraine’s defense capabilities.

Poland: Economic Cooperation and Pressure on Russia
During the meeting with Polish President Andrzej Duda, issues of bilateral relations, diplomatic interaction, and the importance of continued pressure on the Russian Federation for achieving a just peace for Ukraine were discussed. Additionally, mutually beneficial economic projects planned for implementation in the near future were emphasized. Zelensky expressed gratitude to the Polish people and personally to Andrzej Duda for their support since the beginning of the full-scale invasion.
The summit in Vilnius brought together the leaders of the Bucharest Nine and Nordic countries. Among the key agenda topics were strengthening security and defense on NATO’s eastern flank and preparations for the Alliance summit, which will take place on June 24-25 in The Hague. Participants at the summit also paid special attention to issues of further support for Ukraine.
Furthermore, on May 21, European Union countries reached an agreement to create a defense fund, Security Action for Europe (SAFE), amounting to 150 billion euros. On May 27, the EU Council approved the first large-scale investment program in the defense sector at the EU level, also worth 150 billion euros.
