Focus on Diplomatic Efforts to End the War
The President emphasized the importance of continuing diplomatic dialogue, noting that both sides intend to continue consultations. Meetings are scheduled for the following day, March 22. Zelensky stressed:
“From the American side – Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. It is important for all of us in the world that diplomacy continues and we are trying to end this war – the war of Russia against Ukraine. No one wants war. The teams will continue to communicate tomorrow (March 22 – ed.)”
According to the head of state, the key issue now remains the readiness of the Russian side for a real cessation of hostilities and its openness in negotiations.
Impact of the Geopolitical Situation and Progress of Negotiations
Zelensky also noted that due to tensions in the Middle East, particularly the Iranian factor, the geopolitical situation in the world has become more complicated. He added that the team will prepare a more detailed report on the results of the negotiations soon.
Currently, there have been no official comments from the White House regarding these negotiations.
In January and February, several rounds of trilateral meetings took place between Ukraine, the U.S., and Russia aimed at reaching agreements on ending the war. However, no official information has been provided about the specific outcomes of these meetings. It is known that during the meeting on February 5, the parties agreed on a prisoner exchange – the first such exchange in the last five months.
A new meeting scheduled for early March in the UAE capital, Abu Dhabi, was postponed due to the escalation of the situation in the Middle East.
