Zelensky expects Trump’s special envoys to visit Kyiv in the next two weeks

На тлі переговорів в Лондоні Зеленський заявив, що Україна наполягає на повному і безумовному припиненні вогню

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed hope that special representatives of U.S. President Donald Trump – Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner – will visit Kyiv within the next two weeks. He stated this in an interview with American television.

Significance of the visit by American special envoys

According to Zelensky, the American delegation has never visited Ukraine, and such a visit is extremely important. He is convinced that it is important for the U.S. to see the situation in Ukraine firsthand, to communicate with people, and to gain an understanding of the realities of life during the war. Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine seeks an end to the war, and such a visit could help form a more objective understanding among American partners.

“We expect them to come to Kyiv. I hope they will find an opportunity to come here in two weeks. At least I received such a message from my negotiating team: they told me they had contacts with Steve and Jared, and they stated that they are ready to come to Ukraine and talk if… today that ‘if’ means the Middle East,” he said.

Circumstances and possible obstacles for the trip

So far, no official dates for the visit of Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner have been announced. Earlier, in early May, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Rustem Umerov visited the U.S., where he had a meeting with Steve Witkoff. After this meeting, Zelensky reported that the visit of American representatives to Kyiv could take place at the end of spring or the beginning of summer.

At the same time, according to foreign publications, President Trump’s envoys are not rushing to travel to Kyiv. It is noted that there is growing concern in Washington regarding the effectiveness of resuming peace negotiations concerning Ukraine. In addition to political reasons, there are also technical difficulties – in particular, challenges in organizing the trip, as during wartime it is necessary to use rail transport, which can be burdensome for the delegates.

It is expected that a decision regarding the date of the visit will be made after additional consultations and an assessment of the security situation in the region.
