Zelensky Calls for Increased International Pressure on Russia After Strike on Dnipro

Зеленський привітав Мадяра з призначення на посаду прем’єра Угорщини

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that to end the war, it is necessary to strengthen political and economic pressure on Russia. His comments came in response to yet another missile strike by the Russian Federation on Dnipro, which occurred on May 31.

Ukrainian Authorities’ Position on Dnipro Shelling

According to Zelensky, the cessation of regular Russian attacks on Ukrainian cities is only possible through decisive and united actions by the international community, as well as the strengthening of sanctions against the aggressor country. The president emphasized that only sufficient support for Ukraine’s defensive capabilities and continuous pressure on Russia can stop strikes on civilian facilities.

“All these strikes need to be stopped. We only need sufficient support for our defense and continued pressure on Russia,” Zelensky emphasized.

The head of state also called on international leaders and partners to activate all available levers of influence – from internal sanctions to economic restrictions – to achieve real security in Ukraine. He noted that pressure on Russia is the only effective path to peace.

Consequences of the Attack and Government Response

As a result of the shelling of Dnipro, reported by the head of the regional military administration, Oleksandr Hanzha, a large fire broke out in the city. A logistics company’s warehouse was destroyed, several vehicles were damaged, and a branch of “Nova Poshta” was completely destroyed.

Russian troops regularly shell Ukrainian cities with various types of weaponry: strike drones, missiles, guided bombs, and multiple launch rocket systems. These attacks are aimed at destroying civilian infrastructure across Ukraine.

The Ukrainian authorities and international organizations classify such strikes as war crimes, emphasizing their deliberate nature. Shelling of vital infrastructure and medical facilities, which leave civilians without electricity, heat, water, communication, and medical assistance, exhibits signs of genocidal actions.

Despite clear evidence, the Russian leadership denies accusations of deliberate strikes on civilian infrastructure, rejecting claims of civilian casualties and the destruction of medical facilities, schools, energy, and water supply facilities.
