The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, has tasked the new Minister of Defense, Denys Shmyhal, with urgently concluding all necessary contracts for the supply of drones for the Defense Forces of Ukraine. Zelensky emphasized that special attention is being paid to interceptor drones, which are to become an important component of the country’s defense capability.

Plans to Strengthen Defense Capabilities

According to the head of state, Denys Shmyhal is already conducting an audit of agreements that require the swift conclusion of contracts. The President stressed the critical importance of equipping the Defense Forces with modern drones, especially considering the current needs at the front.

“Report from the Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal. An audit of agreements that require expedited contracting is already underway. In particular, this concerns drones, especially interceptor drones. I instructed to urgently conclude all relevant contracts for the drones needed by our Defense Forces of Ukraine,” Zelensky reported.

Strategy for the Development of the Ministry of Defense

A separate topic was the use of long-range drones for precision strikes on enemy positions. Zelensky noted the effectiveness of Ukrainian units participating in such operations and emphasized the need to increase the frequency of effective strikes and identify priority targets for deep strikes.

The President announced that on July 21, Minister of Defense Denys Shmyhal will present a detailed program of the ministry’s activities, which will outline the main priorities for both the upcoming weeks and the medium-term perspective — the next six months. This is intended to ensure a systematic approach to reforming the defense sector and a rapid response to current challenges.

It is worth noting that on July 17, the Verkhovna Rada voted for changes in the composition of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine. In particular, Denys Shmyhal, who previously held the position of Prime Minister, became the new head of the Ministry of Defense. On the same day, the parliament approved Yulia Svyrydenko as the Prime Minister of Ukraine.
