The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, has officially submitted a proposal to the Verkhovna Rada to appoint Yulia Svyrydenko as Prime Minister. This information was confirmed by Members of Parliament Oleksandr Kachura and Yaroslav Zheleznyak.
Consideration of the Candidacy and Next Steps
The parliament is scheduled to consider the appointment of the Prime Minister, as well as the formation of a new government, including the heads of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Defense. According to MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak, this issue is expected to be resolved by the evening, within one plenary day. The action program of the new government may also be approved, although this process can be postponed to a later date.
“At 9:45, the Committee on Statehood. Then the consideration of the Prime Minister’s appointment, the composition of the government, separately for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Defense. They should finish by around 16-17. Theoretically, they still have to approve the government’s action program. But that can be done later,” Zheleznyak wrote on Telegram.
Changes in the Government of Ukraine
On July 14, Volodymyr Zelensky proposed Yulia Svyrydenko to head the Cabinet of Ministers and initiated a significant update of the government’s operations. In response, the then Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal submitted his resignation. On July 16, the Verkhovna Rada voted for the resignation of the entire government led by Shmyhal.
From that moment on, all ministers are performing their duties temporarily, until the new composition of the government is approved by the parliament.
