Zelensky Signed Decrees on Sanctions Against Russian Judges and Companies

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, has approved two decrees that implement the decisions of the National Security and Defense Council regarding the introduction of sanctions. These restrictions target judges from Russia and continue the sanctions against a number of Russian companies for which the previous sanctions were about to expire.

Sanctions Against Russian Judges and Collaborators

The new sanctions package includes 41 judges, of whom 38 are citizens of the Russian Federation, and three are former citizens of Ukraine who have become collaborators. According to the President’s Office, these individuals issued illegal sentences regarding the imprisonment of Ukrainian prisoners of war and supported and justified Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.

“The sanctions package includes 41 judges, of whom 38 are citizens of Russia, and three are collaborators. They issued illegal sentences regarding the imprisonment of prisoners of war and support and justify Russian aggression against Ukraine,” the President’s Office reported.

Among those sanctioned is a judge from Russia who, in a short period, issued sentences against nine Ukrainian prisoners of war accused of terrorism. Sanctions were also imposed on former Ukrainians who sentenced British and Moroccan volunteers defending Ukraine as part of the Armed Forces to death in the temporarily occupied territories of Donetsk.

The mentioned sanctions also apply to judges who made repressive decisions against public figures, activists, and journalists based on their political or religious beliefs.

Extension of Sanctions Against Russian Companies

In addition to the judges, Zelensky extended sanctions against 11 Russian companies whose restrictions were about to expire. These sanctions were first applied in 2021 and 2023, and during this period, three companies from the list were completely liquidated.

The list includes enterprises engaged in the repair and maintenance of aviation equipment, including Ka and Mi helicopters, companies that develop and manufacture drones, as well as those operating illegally in temporarily occupied Crimea and participating in the construction of the Crimean Bridge.

Ukraine plans to share this information with international partners to synchronize sanctions in their countries.

It is worth noting that in February of this year, Ukraine already imposed sanctions against Russian scientists, heads of occupation administrations, and organizations engaged in propaganda and distortion of history.
