U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink intends to resign early, as reported by Reuters and CBS News, citing three confidential sources. The U.S. State Department confirmed Brink’s intention to leave her position on April 10.

“Ambassador Brink is resigning. She has been there as ambassador for three years – a long time in a combat zone. And, frankly, the war has gone on for too long,” said a State Department representative, as quoted by CBS News.

Although Brink has not officially submitted her resignation, sources say she has already said her goodbyes to colleagues. She did not respond to a request for comment.

An anonymous U.S. official noted that the reasons for her resignation are related to a combination of personal and political issues. Bridget Brink has been serving in a combat zone, where diplomats typically work without their families.

Last week, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed his dissatisfaction with the U.S. Embassy’s response to the Russian missile strike on Kryvyi Rih, which resulted in the deaths of 20 people, including nine children. “Such a strong country, such a strong people – and such a weak response. They are even afraid to say the word ‘Russian’ when talking about the missile that killed children,” the head of state remarked.

In her message about the subsequent Russian missile strike, Brink mentioned Russia’s aggression. “As of 6:30 AM, Kyiv and the rest of Ukraine remain under fire from ballistic and cruise missiles from Russia. Loud explosions in the capital and reports of attacks in several cities,” she wrote on social media platform X on the morning of April 6.
