Director of the National Economic Council Kevin Hassett reported that the 90-day mutual tariff pause resulted from «good faith discussions» and noted that about 15 countries have made «clear» proposals for cooperation with the US.

«The pause was based on good faith conversation. I had a conversation with the president and the president of Switzerland yesterday morning, which was incredibly pleasant,» Hassett stated, as quoted by CNN.
Expectations for Economic Changes
The economic advisor expressed hope for a «significant movement» of world leaders toward the White House in the coming weeks. «The United States Trade Representative informed us that there are possibly 15 countries that have presented clear proposals, which we are analyzing, reviewing, and deciding whether they are good enough to present to the president,» he added.
Discussions on Agreements with Allies
Hassett also noted that today’s Cabinet meeting will discuss achieving trade agreements with allies to jointly confront economic challenges posed by China.
US President Donald Trump announced on April 2 the imposition of tariffs on goods imported into the United States, which caused stock markets to fall worldwide.
However, on April 9, Trump announced a 90-day pause and a «significant reduction» of mutual tariffs on goods from 75 countries. At the same time, he announced an increase in tariffs on Chinese goods to 125%, accusing Beijing of «lack of respect» for global markets.
