The Importance of Transparency in Selecting the Head of the Bureau
“The G7 ambassadors welcome the latest step in the process of selecting the director of the Bureau of Economic Security. Transparency with active participation from both international and Ukrainian members of the commission is key,” the statement reads.
The diplomats emphasized that the reform of the Bureau of Economic Security is crucial for improving the business climate, attracting foreign investments, and successfully advancing Ukraine on its path to Euro-Atlantic integration.
The Candidacy of Oleksandr Tsyvynskyi and Next Steps
Recently, the competition commission identified the finalist for the position of director of the Bureau of Economic Security – Oleksandr Tsyvynskyi, who heads the third unit of detectives in the Second Main Department of NABU. According to the information released, during the selection process, the commission members were drawn to a letter from the Security Service stating that Tsyvynskyi has relatives in Russia, including a father who resides there. During the hearings, the candidate stated that he does not maintain contact with his father.
After the commission approves the candidacy, it will be submitted to Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal for consideration, in accordance with the procedure. According to current legislation, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine must appoint the submitted candidate as the head of the Bureau of Economic Security within ten days of receiving the submission.
