“Our Minister of Defense is proud to announce a new decision regarding the aid package of one billion for 2025, with the ambition to provide at least one billion each year during my term as part of bilateral military assistance.”
Bart De Wever also noted that the country’s Minister of Defense, Theo Francken, has already prepared a list of actions that will be implemented in the near future.
President Zelensky expressed gratitude to Belgium for the aid package, emphasizing the importance of support for Ukraine amid the ongoing war.
Prior to the visit of the Belgian delegation, Foreign Minister Maxime Prevo emphasized that “Belgium is among the top twenty largest donor countries per capita.” He highlighted the humanitarian aspect of cooperation, noting that since the beginning of the large-scale Russian invasion, the country has provided Ukraine with over 2.2 billion euros in aid.
Prevo also pointed out three strategic areas that will be focused on: sustainable energy development and circular construction, healthcare and social protection, as well as education, skills, and employment.
Additionally, in March, Bart De Wever clarified the situation regarding the supply of F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine. He explained the delay in the transfer of the aircraft due to “technical issues” with acquiring more advanced F-35 jets, but assured that “we will do this as soon as possible.”
