In the Podil district of Kyiv, police detained a man who opened fire on a car carrying a woman and her young child.
Details of the Incident in Podil
The incident occurred when a bicyclist fired at a car traveling down the street. According to the victim, she was driving with her son when suddenly an unknown man on a bicycle shot at her vehicle and immediately fled the scene.
Police Actions and Qualification of the Offense
Law enforcement quickly identified the attacker and apprehended him. It turned out that the shooter is a 46-year-old man. A revolver, which was used in the shooting, was seized from him. According to the detainee, the motive for his actions was revenge: he claimed that the car had allegedly “cut him off” on the road, which prompted him to use his weapon in response.
“As reported by the police, a woman approached them and stated that she was driving with her young son when suddenly an unknown man on a bicycle fired in the direction of her vehicle and fled the scene.”
The case has been classified under part 4 of Article 296 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — hooliganism with the use of weapons. Under current legislation, the detainee faces up to seven years in prison.
As a result of the shooting, none of the passengers in the car were injured.
