The Kyiv District Administrative Court has suspended the hearing of the case regarding the cancellation of the heritage status of the historic building located at 20/21 Sofiivska Street in the center of the capital.

Legal Case Surrounding Heritage Status
The hearing of the lawsuit from the developer, who demands the cancellation of the building’s heritage status, has been postponed indefinitely. According to historical legends, it was from the balcony of this building that the IV Universal of the Ukrainian People’s Republic was proclaimed in 1918. The building holds significant historical value and was constructed in 1870.
Heritage protector Dmytro Perov reported on social media that Judge Ivan Voitovych decided to suspend the proceedings in the case regarding the heritage status of the “Drevnia Rus” hotel at 20/21 Sofiivska Street.
“The fate of the heritage site at Sofiivska Square is being postponed. Judge Ivan Voitovych of the Kyiv District Administrative Court has halted the proceedings in the case regarding the appeal of the heritage status for the “Drevnia Rus” hotel located at 20/21 Sofiivska Street,” wrote Dmytro Perov.
Developer’s Position and Further Actions
Previously, the developer company LLC “Kurdoner” filed a lawsuit demanding the cancellation of the order from the Department of Cultural Heritage Protection of the Kyiv City State Administration, which included the building in the Register of Heritage Sites of Kyiv. Company representatives insist that the building has lost its authenticity and that the historical events associated with this site lack confirmation.
During the last session, the developer’s lawyer supported the motion to suspend the hearing of the case until the completion of another court process. In this parallel case, the Office of the Prosecutor General is challenging the decision of the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine regarding the building’s non-compliance with the status of a cultural heritage site.
As Dmytro Perov notes, the court process is currently being delayed, and the historic structure, which witnessed significant events for Ukrainian statehood, continues to deteriorate under the banner of the Museum of the History of Kyiv.
