The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has approved Denys Shmyhal as the Minister of Defense. The decision was supported by 267 members of parliament during the vote on July 17.

Changes in the Government Composition

Denys Shmyhal, who led the Cabinet of Ministers for over five years, was recently dismissed from the position of Prime Minister. His tenure at the head of the government was the longest in the history of independent Ukraine. Now, Shmyhal begins a new phase of public service, taking over the leadership of the Ministry of Defense during the ongoing Russian aggression against Ukraine.

Former Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal has been confirmed as the Minister of Defense. This decision was supported by 267 deputies on July 17, reported Yaroslav Zheleznyak from the Holos faction.

Andrii Sybiha’s Powers Confirmed

Additionally, the Verkhovna Rada has retained Andrii Sybiha as the Minister of Foreign Affairs. A total of 271 parliamentarians voted in favor of his continued work in the government. Sybiha has held this position since September of last year, demonstrating stability in the country’s foreign policy course.

The updated government composition is expected to ensure further effective operations under martial law and with international support for Ukraine.
