Doctor Pavlo Barshak’s house, located in the city center on Esplanadna Street, may receive the status of a historical landmark. This recommendation was provided by officials from the Kyiv City State Administration.
Initiative for Protective Status
According to heritage conservationist Dmytro Perov, the Department of Cultural Heritage Protection of the Kyiv City State Administration has approached the Kyiv Scientific and Methodological Center with a request to develop the necessary documentation for including Barshak’s House, built in 1900, in the List of Landmarks of Kyiv.
“The Department of Cultural Heritage Protection of the Kyiv City State Administration recommended that the ‘Kyiv Scientific and Methodological Center for the Protection, Restoration, and Use of Historical and Cultural Landmarks and Protected Areas’ develop documentation for the inclusion of Barshak’s House, 1900, in the List of Landmarks of Kyiv,” wrote Dmytro Perov.

Violations During Reconstruction
Activists emphasize that the building at Esplanadna, 20a, is located within the Central Historical Area. This territory falls under the regulated construction zone and protective zones of historical and architectural landmarks.

At the beginning of June, the developer dismantled the roof of the building without the necessary permits, and is currently conducting the dismantling of internal partitions and ceilings. It is known that there is no approval for this work from the Department of Cultural Heritage Protection, and the necessary documentation is absent from the developer.
