Sanctions Against Russia: A Joint Strategy with International Partners
According to the NSDC decision, Ukraine is to coordinate the implementation of restrictive measures with partners to increase pressure on the Russian Federation and associated states. The main goal of this step is to ensure maximum negative consequences for the aggressor state due to the war it has unleashed against Ukraine, as well as to significantly limit its military-industrial potential.
The document states that the Cabinet of Ministers, the Security Service of Ukraine, and the National Bank must ensure the full implementation of sanctions imposed by international partners on the territory of Ukraine.
“Restrictive measures (sanctions) approved by partner states must be synchronized within the jurisdiction of Ukraine by submitting them for consideration and approval by the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine no later than the 15th day after the relevant decision of the partner state or group of states comes into effect.”
Synchronization of Restrictions and New Sanction Packages
Additionally, the government, the SBU, the Foreign Intelligence Service, and the Office of the Prosecutor General must ensure operational coordination of the sanctions that Ukraine implements in response to Russian aggression with measures from the EU, the USA, and other countries.
On June 26, the leaders of the European Union member states politically supported the continuation of existing sanctions against Russia. At the same time, the introduction of a new, 18th package of sanctions, which includes the energy and banking sectors of the aggressor state, is currently blocked by Slovakia.
