An Exhibition Opened at St. Sophia Cathedral to Celebrate the 110th Anniversary of Architect Mykola Kolomiiets

The exhibition dedicated to the 110th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding Ukrainian architect Mykola Kolomiiets opened in the halls of the Zaborovsky Gate of the National Reserve “St. Sophia of Kyiv.”

The Architectural Heritage of Mykola Kolomiiets

The exhibition features unique materials from the reserve’s collections, among which the architectural drawings of Mykola Kolomiiets hold a central place. Visitors have the opportunity to see the design of the “Khreshchatyk” metro station and a sketch of one of the artist’s most ambitious projects – the “Triumphal Arch in Kyiv” project.

Particular attention at the exhibition is given to watercolors created by Kolomiiets during his studies of architectural monuments and travels across Ukraine and abroad. These works impress with their combination of artistic skill, attention to detail, and accuracy in depicting architectural objects.

The exhibition is also complemented by photographs of cultural buildings constructed according to Mykola Kolomiiets’ designs in various cities of Ukraine, as stated on the Facebook page of the reserve.

The Life and Work of the Outstanding Architect

Mykola Kolomiiets (1915–1994) was a Doctor of Architecture and an art historian who worked at the Academy of Architecture of the Ukrainian SSR and the Main Department of Architecture of the Ukrainian SSR. The architect is known as the author of iconic projects in public and residential construction, as well as several stations of the Kyiv Metro. Kolomiiets participated in large-scale architectural competitions and scientific research, leaving a significant contribution to the development of Ukrainian architecture.
