The 54th International Film Festival ‘Molodist’ Kicks Off in Kyiv: 12 Films from Different Countries

The 54th Kyiv International Film Festival ‘Molodist’ will take place this autumn in the capital of Ukraine. The event traditionally brings together debut feature films, short films, and student films, providing a platform for new names in global cinema. The festival will run from October 25 to November 2.

International Competition: 12 Films from Around the World

This year, 12 films representing various countries and genres have been selected for the international feature film competition. Among them:

  • ‘We Believe in You’ (Belgium);
  • ‘The Slacker’ (United Kingdom);
  • ‘Our House is on Fire’ (Ukraine);
  • ‘The Helpful Ghost’ (France);
  • ‘Crazy Bills, or Destiny, Tell Me I’m Good’ (USA);
  • ‘Strange River’ (Spain, Germany);
  • and other works by young directors from different corners of the world.

‘Molodist’ celebrates its 55th anniversary since its founding. The first event took place in 1970 as a student showcase of short films at the Kyiv State Institute of Theatre Arts named after Karpenko-Kary.

History and Significance of the Festival

Over more than half a century, ‘Molodist’ has transformed into the main film event in Ukraine, gaining international recognition. Since the 1990s, the festival has held the status of a specialized international forum for debut cinema, registered with FIAPF. Traditionally, it unveils new names in the film industry and promotes cultural exchange between countries.
