Estonia Calls for Increased International Pressure on Russia to End Aggression

єдиний шлях до припинення вогню – посилити колективний тиск на Росію

Estonian President Alar Karis, during his speech at the UN General Assembly, drew attention to a new wave of escalation from Russia, which is violating the airspace of neighboring NATO states. He emphasized that such incidents involving Russian drones and missiles pose serious threats not only to Ukraine but to the entire region.

Collective Pressure as the Key to Peace

“The only viable path to a ceasefire, trust, and love in peace is to strengthen collective international pressure on Russia to compel it to peace in Ukraine and to act in accordance with its status as a permanent member of the UN Security Council,” Karis stressed.

According to the Estonian president, his country will remain committed to supporting Ukraine by providing it with everything necessary for defense. Karis highlighted the need to hold Russia accountable for the crimes committed on Ukrainian territory, particularly for acts of aggression. He emphasized that Russia’s impunity only provokes new crimes, increases suffering, and breeds injustice.

Consequences of Russian Provocations for Regional Security

The Estonian president noted that human suffering in Ukraine has reached unprecedented levels. He mentioned the mass shelling of civilian infrastructure, numerous casualties among the civilian population, the abduction of Ukrainian children, and their forced integration into Russian society. According to him, these actions indicate Russia’s lack of intent to achieve a ceasefire or establish lasting peace.

Karis emphasized that Russia’s true goal remains the subjugation of all of Ukraine and the alteration of the European security order in line with its colonial and imperial ambitions.

On the night of September 10, Polish authorities recorded border violations by approximately 20 Russian drones, some of which were shot down by NATO aviation. Additionally, there were reports of a drone flying over Romanian territory. On September 19, the authorities of Estonia and other NATO countries recorded airspace violations in Estonia by three Russian fighter jets, which were present there for at least 12 minutes.
