The Exhibition Brings Together Unique Artifacts from the Principality Era
Starting August 21, visitors to “St. Sophia of Kyiv” will be able to explore the exhibition “The Savior of Chernihiv at St. Sophia of Kyiv.” The main theme of the exhibition is the Transfiguration Cathedral, which was built in the 11th century in Chernihiv and served as a pantheon for the Chernihiv princes. It is one of the oldest temples from the principality era in Eastern Europe that has preserved its original appearance almost unchanged.
“The exhibition reveals for the first time the shared history with St. Sophia of Kyiv, highlighting the significance of these sanctuaries. The display features unique artifacts from all the Chernihiv princes of the 11th–12th centuries, along with exceptional exhibits related to the cathedral, which are preserved as unique items in the Museum Fund of Ukraine,” officials from the ministry stated.
Rare Exhibits and Special Remembrance
Among the exhibits is a model of the original appearance of the Transfiguration Cathedral, created in collaboration with the National University of “Chernihiv Polytechnic.” The exhibition introduces visitors to rare artifacts from the 11th–12th centuries that hold special historical and cultural significance.
The exhibition is dedicated to the memory of Chernihiv museum curator Marina Hrytsenko, who died on August 7, 2025, while defending Ukraine.
