An Exhibition of Rare Uncensored Editions Opens at the National Museum of Literature

У Музеї літератури показують рідкісні позацензурні видання

The National Museum of Literature of Ukraine has opened a literary and artistic exhibition titled “Language is a Shield! Word is a Weapon!” dedicated to the Day of Ukrainian Writing and Language. The event emphasizes the special role of the word in shaping national identity and the development of Ukrainian culture, especially in the context of the struggle for the country’s independence and freedom.

Rare Editions and Unique Manuscripts

The exhibition features unique uncensored editions from the museum’s collection, which have survived in only a few copies. Visitors have the opportunity to see photographic materials of manuscripts, including “The Tale of Bygone Years” (1072–1073), “Kyiv-Pechersk Patericon” (11th–13th centuries), “Peresopnytsia Gospel” (16th century), “Apostle” (1574), and other significant monuments of Ukrainian writing.

It is through language that literature shapes national identity, worldview, and, most importantly, a sense of love for one’s homeland.

Works of Classics and Linguistic Studies

A separate part of the exhibition is dedicated to the works of prominent Ukrainian writers — Ivan Kotliarevskyi, Taras Shevchenko, Ivan Franko. The exhibition also showcases the works of leading linguists — Pavlo Zhytetskyi, Agatangel Krymskyi, and Borys Hrinchenko, who made significant contributions to the establishment of Ukrainian linguistic science.
