Circumstances of the Rescuers’ Death

While extinguishing a fire caused by enemy shelling, the three rescuers went on a reconnaissance mission to check if there were people in the burning building. At that moment, Russian forces launched a second strike, which proved fatal for the firefighters. This was reported by the spokesperson for the State Emergency Service, Svitlana Vodolaha. The farewell ceremony was attended by the relatives of the fallen, colleagues from the SES, and concerned residents of Kyiv who came to honor the memory of the heroes.

Consequences of the Attack and the Rescuers’ Heroism

As a result of the Russian attack during the rescue operations, 16 SES employees and 16 civilians were injured. Thanks to the professional actions of the firefighters, the lives of four civilians were saved. All three fallen rescuers remained at their combat post until the end, performing their duties with self-sacrifice.

“The Russians took the lives of people who were the first to rush to eliminate the consequences of the terrible strike. People who went out for their regular duty, as always – in combat readiness. Before leaving for work, they kissed and hugged their wives and children… And they never returned… Each of them had their favorite pursuits, desires, and life plans. But the enemy decided otherwise,” the SES wrote.
