Key Areas of Military Assistance
According to the minister’s statement, Germany has already approved funding for the assistance package. The main areas where the funds will be directed include:
- Supply of long-range weapons for the Ukrainian army. The parties signed a Letter of Intent, under which Germany will finance the purchase of Ukrainian long-range systems for “hundreds of millions of euros.” This is expected to directly enhance Ukraine’s defense capabilities and its capacity for precise long-range strikes.
- Signing a contract with Diehl Defence for the production of IRIS-T air defense systems and their missiles, with a total value of 2.2 billion euros.
- Supply of medical equipment produced in Ukraine for the needs of the defense forces.
“Germany is committed to supporting investments in the Ukrainian defense industry and urging others to do the same, particularly regarding air defense,” Umerov added.
Signing of the Agreement and Zelensky’s Visit
During the visit, an agreement was also signed between the Ministries of Defense of Ukraine and Germany regarding the financing of Ukrainian long-range systems for 5 billion euros.
On May 28, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky is making his first visit to Berlin since Friedrich Merz took office as Chancellor. The previous visit of the head of state to the German capital took place in October 2024.
