Zelensky Held Consultations with the Negotiating Team Before Talks in the UAE

President Volodymyr Zelensky initiated a meeting with the Ukrainian negotiating delegation ahead of important talks scheduled to take place in the United Arab Emirates. During the consultations, the head of state discussed key issues related to the agenda and the desired outcome of the negotiation process with his team.

Preparation for Trilateral Negotiations

Zelensky noted that he had communicated with the head of the delegation, Rustem Umerov, as well as with the entire group representing Ukraine. According to the president, all participants clearly understand their tasks, and the main frameworks and topics for the upcoming discussion have been established.

“I spoke with the head of the delegation, Rustem Umerov. Our entire group was on the call, and we all communicated; everyone understands what to do. We discussed the framework of the conversation, the topics, and the desired outcome,” he said.

Participants and Main Topics of the Negotiations

The president emphasized that the formats of the negotiations will be ultimately determined by the Ukrainian delegation on-site, depending on how the dialogue develops, as this type of meeting is taking place for the first time in a long while. Zelensky also stated that he plans to maintain regular contact with the team during the negotiations.

Previously, the head of state emphasized that the issue of Donbas is central to the agenda of the talks in Abu Dhabi. It is known that on January 23 and 24, the first trilateral negotiations involving representatives from the USA, Ukraine, and Russia regarding the war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine will take place in the United Arab Emirates. The Ukrainian delegation will be led by the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, Rustem Umerov, and will also include the head of the President’s Office, Kyrylo Budanov, and the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Andriy Hnatov.
