The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved a draft law that provides for a significant increase in the one-time financial assistance for childbirth. This information was announced by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.

Significant Increase in Assistance for Young Families

The draft law proposes to raise the one-time payment for childbirth from 10,320 hryvnias to 50,000 hryvnias. In addition, an increase in monthly payments for women who have given birth but do not have insurance coverage is expected.

“Currently, this payment is less than 1,000 hryvnias, but after the law is passed, it will amount to 7,000 hryvnias per month,” Shmyhal noted.

The document also provides for the introduction of monthly assistance for parents or guardians caring for a child until they reach one year of age. The amount of this support will be determined separately by the Cabinet of Ministers.

New Social Initiatives and Preservation of Existing Programs

Among the new initiatives is the launch of the “eNursery” program. After the child turns one year old, parents will have the option to return to work or continue caring for the child at home until the age of three. If they return to work, the state will pay 8,000 hryvnias monthly. If the parents choose to stay at home, their payment of the single social contribution will be maintained until the child turns three.

The government also keeps the “Baby Package” program in effect: parents will be able to choose between receiving a set of essential items for the infant or a monetary compensation of over 7,500 hryvnias.

Currently, the childbirth assistance amounts to 41,280 hryvnias. A one-time payment of 10,320 hryvnias is made, and the remaining amount (30,960 hryvnias) is paid by the state over three years at 860 hryvnias per month.
