On the night of June 6, as a result of an airstrike by Russian forces, the house of entrepreneur Yakov Greter, built in 1890, was damaged in Kyiv’s Shulyavka. This building is considered a historical landmark and is one of the most valuable structures in the area.

Significance of the Destroyed Landmark for the Capital

As of today, Greter’s house was one of three historical buildings that survived in Shulyavka. In addition to it, the list also includes the tool and mechanical assembly workshops, which, along with Greter’s house, were included in the Register of Landmarks of Kyiv according to the order of the Department of Cultural Heritage Protection dated December 3, 2013, No. 10/69-13. All these objects have the status of historical, architectural, and urban planning landmarks.

Call to Authorities for Restoration

Heritage protector Dmytro Perov emphasized on social media that the destruction of the building was a significant loss for the cultural heritage of the capital. He also appealed to the Kyiv authorities, urging them not to leave the situation without proper attention, stressing the need to restore the destroyed landmark.

“On the night of June 5 to 6, Greter’s house was almost completely destroyed… This is one of the last iconic historical buildings that has survived in Shulyavka,” wrote Perov.

Greter’s building is a symbol of the history and industrial development of Kyiv at the end of the 19th century, and its restoration remains a pressing issue for the city.
