Official Position of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine Regarding the Event
The Orthodox Church of Ukraine expressed a strongly negative attitude towards the holding of the LGBT event next to St. Michael’s Golden-Domed Monastery. In a statement released, church representatives emphasized that the chosen location, time, and purpose of the event are a deliberate provocation aimed at creating a scandal.
“The Kyiv Metropolis of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine views the chosen location, time, and purpose of this event as a conscious cynical anti-church provocation aimed at its scandalous promotion,” the OCU stated.
In its address, the OCU emphasized that this is not the first time organizers choose significant dates for Christians for such actions. In particular, the previous event coincided with Good Friday, when believers commemorate the crucifixion of the Savior. The holding of the current event on the eve of Holy Trinity is also considered by church officials to be not coincidental, but a deliberate manifestation of an anti-church position.
Incidents During the Event
During the KyivPride event, clashes occurred between the police and opponents of the event. Law enforcement detained several participants in the unrest. The OCU specifically emphasized that its position on homosexuality and its public promotion remains unchanged and is recorded in official church documents.
