The Hungarian government has announced the renewal of the ban on the import of food products from Ukraine. This was stated by Prime Minister Peter Szijjarto on May 22, emphasizing the adoption of the relevant orders, which have already been published in the official government bulletin of the country.

Hungary confirmed its refusal to withdraw from the International Criminal Court
In addition to the import issue, the Hungarian government has officially revoked its intention to leave the International Criminal Court. According to Szijjarto, this decision is also enshrined in government documents.
“The government withdraws Hungary’s intention to leave the International Criminal Court and prohibits the import of agricultural products from Ukraine,” said Szijjarto.
Details of the ban and the import situation
According to the new government order, various categories of agricultural products, including meat, grains, vegetables, and honey, are now banned from being imported from Ukraine. The restrictions apply to a wide range of items and cover all relevant products of Ukrainian origin.
Earlier, on May 14, a decree that had been in effect since 2023 and prohibited the import of over 20 categories of Ukrainian agricultural products lost its validity in Hungary. As explained by senior broker at Barva Invest Olga Kharabara, this occurred due to the cessation of the state of emergency after the formation of the new government. However, as emphasized in the media, no official permission for import was granted.
Later, a spokesperson for the Hungarian government reported that the lifting of the ban occurred due to a technical error and it was decided to quickly restore it. Thus, as of today, the import of products from Ukraine to Hungary is once again restricted at the legislative level.
