Influenza and ARVI Incidence in Kyiv Increased: Children Are the Most Affected

Kyiv has recorded an increase in the number of cases of influenza and acute respiratory viral infections, including COVID-19.

From December 15 to 21, the capital registered 10,744 new cases of influenza and ARVI, including cases of coronavirus infection. The highest number of cases is among children.

Trends in Incidence Among Different Population Groups

According to official information, among adults, 4,071 cases of illness were recorded over the week, which is an increase of 3.7% compared to the previous week. In children, 6,673 cases were registered, indicating a rise of 5.7%. Children make up 62.1% of all cases of influenza and ARVI.

Overall, the incidence rate increased by 4.9% compared to the previous week, but remains 33.7% lower than the average epidemic threshold for the capital. At the same time, among schoolchildren, there is a positive trend: the number of sick individuals decreased by 10.1%, totaling 3,420 people.

COVID-19 and Hospitalizations

During the reporting period, a decrease in the number of COVID-19 cases by 45.2% was noted – 23 cases were registered, including two children. Throughout the week, 143 individuals were hospitalized in the city’s hospitals with influenza and ARVI, of which 99 were children. A total of 15 people were hospitalized with a diagnosis of COVID-19, including one child. One adult patient with coronavirus was in intensive care.

Among adults, 4,071 cases were recorded (+3.7%), among children – 6,673 cases (+5.7%). Children account for 62.1 percent of the total number of cases.
