The EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Kaja Kallas, criticized the Russian Federation’s claims about alleged attacks by Ukraine on key government facilities in Russia, calling such statements an attempt to divert attention from real peace issues.

Russia’s accusations and the international community’s response
Kallas emphasized that such statements from Moscow are part of an information strategy aimed at discrediting Ukraine and its Western partners. According to her, Russia is trying to undermine progress in the peace process and manipulate public opinion:
“Russia’s statement that Ukraine recently attacked key government facilities in Russia is a deliberate distraction. Moscow seeks to disrupt the real progress of Ukraine and its Western partners toward peace.”
She also urged not to take the unfounded accusations of the aggressor country at face value, which has been constantly attacking Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure and population since the beginning of the full-scale war.
Lavrov’s statements and Ukraine’s response
Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov accused Ukraine of organizing an attack on President Vladimir Putin’s residence in Valdai, claiming that 91 drones were launched on the night of December 29, which, according to him, were destroyed by Russian air defense. Lavrov also threatened that Moscow might change its position in negotiations due to these events, accusing Kyiv of “state terrorism” and promising retaliatory strikes on designated targets.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky responded by stating that such claims are yet another piece of propaganda aimed at justifying future Russian strikes on Ukraine.
U.S. President Donald Trump also commented on the situation, stating that he learned about the incident from Putin and was “very angry,” but acknowledged that Russia’s accusations could be fake, emphasizing: “But President Putin told me this morning that it happened.”
Statements from Russian officials came against the backdrop of negotiations between Ukraine and the United States regarding possible paths to achieve peace and end the war, which has been ongoing for almost two years.
