Details of the Kyiv City Administration’s Plans and Activists’ Position

It is known that the Deputy Head of the Kyiv City State Administration for Self-Government Issues, Oleg Kuivskyi, announced the preparation of a renovation project. According to him, the estimated cost of the work could range from 400 to 500 million hryvnias. This information was reported by heritage conservationist Dmytro Perov, who cited information received from the official of the Kyiv City State Administration.

“The deputy of Vitalii Klitschko on self-government issues, Oleg Kuivskyi, stated that a renovation project for the market is indeed being prepared. Kuivskyi estimated the cost of such work at 400-500 million UAH,” wrote Dmytro Perov.

Dmytro Perov also reported that recently, Kyiv City Council deputies visited the Zhytniy Market to assess its current condition. This step indicates increased attention from the city authorities to the site, but raises questions about the legality of the planned actions.

Legal Aspects: Restoration or Renovation?

Activists emphasize that any changes to cultural heritage sites should be limited to restoration work. Renovation, unlike restoration, allows for changes to the spatial and volumetric solutions of the building and its functional purpose, which contradicts the law on the protection of cultural heritage.

Dmytro Perov highlighted the need to grant the Zhytniy Market official protective status as soon as possible. In his opinion, this would help protect the market from potential changes that could harm its historical value.
