The Kyiv police have held a local resident accountable for cruelly treating his own dog right on the street.

How the offense was discovered
The case of animal cruelty became known due to the spread of a video on social media. Footage captured by a witness was published on one of the Kyiv Telegram channels. The video shows a man walking his dog in the area of a residential complex in the Dnipro district, repeatedly hitting the animal. The witness confronted the offender and recorded his actions on camera.
Police actions and consequences for the offender
The capital’s law enforcement identified the offender — a 43-year-old Kyiv resident. Explaining his actions to the police, the man stated that he resorted to beating the dog “for educational purposes,” as he was dissatisfied that the dog relieved itself on the lawn.
“A protocol has been drawn up against the offender for the fact of animal cruelty under part 1 of article 89 of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses. He faces a fine. Additionally, the court may decide to seize the dog from the owner.”
Law enforcement emphasizes that animal cruelty will not go unpunished. Under current legislation, the man faces administrative liability in the form of a fine, and the court may decide to seize the dog.
