A petition has been initiated in Kyiv calling for restrictions on the use of loudspeakers and sound amplifiers in the capital’s public spaces.
According to the author of the petition, excessive noise from sound amplification devices infringes on residents’ right to peace and quality relaxation. The petition, published on the official website of the Kyiv City Council, demands a ban on the use of loudspeakers, speakers, and other similar equipment in public places in Kyiv.
The impact of noise on health and the environment
The petition emphasizes that constant noise levels negatively affect not only the mental and physical health of citizens but also harm the animals and birds living in the city. The author believes that street musicians and vendors often abuse the use of loudspeakers.
“In some cases, loudspeakers are used to impose ideology, aggressive advertising, trade, or religious and political propaganda without the consent of citizens,” the author writes.
International experience and proposals for a ban
The petition also highlights that many European cities have already implemented restrictions or complete bans on the use of loud sound reproduction devices in public places. For example, street musicians often require a special permit, and fines are imposed for violations.
The initiator proposes a complete ban on the use of any sound amplification devices in public locations in Kyiv, except for official city events, festivals, holidays, or actions that are coordinated with the city authorities.
