Residents of Kyiv are gathering signatures for a new tradition in the metro
This is reported by Kyiv24
The capital’s inhabitants are proposing to the city authorities to implement a daily commemoration for those who died in the Russian-Ukrainian war. The corresponding petition is posted on the official website of the Kyiv City Council. The document states the need to announce a moment of silence every day at 9:00 AM in the cars of the Kyiv metro.
Details of the Initiative and Arguments of the Authors
The initiators suggest that the responsibility for announcing the moment of silence be placed on the metro staff. They emphasize that this can occur not only through loudspeakers in the cars but also on monitors in the trains and at the stations. This will allow passengers to participate in the ritual regardless of their location within the transportation system.
“Announcements in the metro cars (at least — on the screens of the monitors) and at the stations will allow passengers to join this important daily ritual of remembrance, no matter where they are on their journey.”
Significance of the Initiative for Kyiv Residents
Signatories of the petition are convinced that such an initiative will contribute to the preservation of national memory and unite residents and guests of Kyiv in a shared commemoration of the heroes and civilian victims of the war. In their opinion, a moment of silence in public transport will become an important element of everyday life for the city’s inhabitants, reminding them of the cost of freedom and the importance of unity in times of war.
The petition is already open for signatures from anyone interested on the Kyiv City Council’s website.
