Active residents of the capital, public figures, and specialists have joined forces to create a comprehensive proposal for the revival of one of Kyiv’s oldest markets. They are convinced that the modernization of the Zhytniy Market should take into account the interests of the community and be based on transparent management principles.
Main Proposals for the Future Market
As reported by the head of the Public Council at the Kyiv City State Administration, Hennadiy Kryvosheya, three key directions have been identified in the proposals. First and foremost, the initiative group insists that the Zhytniy Market remain in communal ownership, without being leased or sold through auction. The second important aspect is to conduct an open competition to appoint a new market manager, who should have experience in attracting investments and collaborating with local producers and farmers.
Additionally, it is proposed to create a supervisory board, which will include representatives from both the city authorities and the community. This is intended to ensure transparent oversight of financial operations and decision-making regarding the market’s development.
Plans for Further Actions
“Currently, we have moved into the process of preparing the relevant proposals in the form of draft decisions for further presentation and discussion with the mayor and the deputies of the Kyiv City Council,” stated the public figure.
After the preparation is completed, all proposals will be officially submitted for consideration by the mayor and the deputies of the Kyiv City Council. The goal of the initiative is to ensure the sustainable development of the Zhytniy Market and to preserve its significance for the residents of the capital.
