In the capital, a petition for renaming the street has gained momentum
This is reported by Kyiv24
Residents of Kyiv have initiated a proposal to give one of the longest streets in the Darnytsia district a new name — in honor of the famous Ukrainian opera singer Dmytro Hnatyuk. This concerns Anna Akhmatova Street, which, according to the authors of the petition, holds significant importance for the city’s infrastructure and runs through large residential areas of the left bank of the city.
Petition in Support of the Renaming
The relevant electronic petition has already been published on the official website of the Kyiv City Council. The initiators emphasize that the name of the Russian poetess should not be associated with one of the most significant public spaces in the capital.
Honoring a Legend of Ukrainian Culture
The signatories of the petition propose to recognize the substantial contribution of Dmytro Hnatyuk, Hero of Ukraine, People’s Artist of the USSR and Ukraine, and laureate of the Shevchenko Prize, to the development of Ukrainian culture. His performance of the song “How Can I Not Love You, My Kyiv” became the official anthem of the capital, and the singer’s talent is part of the national heritage.
Therefore, the name of the Russian poetess should not mark this great and important space of the capital.
