Proposal to commemorate the football legend
Volodymyr Muntyan, who gained fame as a player for Dynamo and as a coach, lived in the Rusanivka residential area during the 1960s and 1970s. His contribution to the development of Ukrainian football is hard to overestimate: the athlete became the holder of the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup and the UEFA Super Cup, bringing international recognition to the Kyiv club. On December 1, 2025, Muntyan passed away in Kyiv at the age of 79.
Public support for the initiative
The authors of the petition emphasize the importance of honoring Muntyan’s memory specifically in Rusanivka, where he lived for a long time. They propose to officially rename the ‘Rusanivets’ stadium to the Volodymyr Muntyan Stadium as a sign of respect for his achievements and contributions to the development of sports.
“From the mid-1960s to the 1970s, Volodymyr Fedorovych lived in Kyiv in the Rusanivka residential area on the left bank of the Dnipro. In honor and eternal memory of the athlete and coach Volodymyr Muntyan, it is proposed to rename the ‘Rusanivets’ stadium in this area to the Volodymyr Muntyan Stadium,” the petition states.
The petition is already available for signing by anyone interested on the official Kyiv City Council website. If the initiative gathers the necessary number of votes, it will be considered by the city authorities.
