Trump stated that Zelensky has not reviewed the US peace plan regarding the war

Трамп вважає, що Зеленський не читав мирний план США, але «його люди в захваті»

US President Donald Trump, during a conversation with journalists in Washington, reported that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has not yet reviewed the American peace proposals for ending the war between Russia and Ukraine. Trump expressed his disappointment that, according to him, Zelensky has still not read the proposed plan.

“We spoke with President Putin and the Ukrainian leadership, including President Zelensky. I have to say, I’m a bit disappointed that Zelensky has not yet read the proposal. As of a few hours ago,” he said.

Positions of the parties on the peace initiative

Trump noted that Zelensky’s team reportedly reacted positively to the American proposal, but he did not specify whether this referred to members of the presidential team or a broader segment of Ukrainian society. He added that Russia, in his opinion, also does not oppose the US plan, although he doubts whether Volodymyr Zelensky fully supports it.

At the same time, Trump emphasized his belief that the Russian Federation would seek to gain control over all of Ukraine, but for now, the idea of a peace agreement might be acceptable to them. According to him, Zelensky has not yet familiarized himself with the details of the plan, although his entourage has already expressed support.

Reactions and further negotiations

On December 6, US Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker stated at a forum in Doha that Ukraine and Russia are potentially now “closer than ever” to reaching a peace agreement during the entire period of full-scale aggression.

On the same day, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported on a “substantive, constructive” phone conversation with Trump’s team. Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine is committed to honest cooperation with the United States to achieve real peace.

On December 2, negotiations took place in Moscow between US representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner and Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding the parameters of a possible peace settlement. Putin’s assistant Yuri Ushakov reported that no compromise was reached during the meeting, but some American proposals appeared quite acceptable.

Later, Vladimir Putin confirmed that during the meeting, the Russian side did not agree with some points of the American plan regarding the cessation of the war against Ukraine. The President of Russia clarified that the meeting was dedicated to a detailed discussion of each point of the peace initiative. Earlier, Yuri Ushakov stated that the discussions primarily concerned the overall concept rather than specific points.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga positively assessed the significance of the negotiations in Moscow for the peace process. According to him, the American side invited the Ukrainian delegation for further negotiations to the US in the near future.
