The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, announced in his video address the start of a new diplomatic week, during which consultations will take place with European leaders. The main topics of discussion will include security issues, support for Ukraine’s resilience, new aid packages for defense, particularly air defense systems, as well as long-term funding for the state.

“We are already starting a new diplomatic week – there will be consultations with European leaders. Primarily security issues, support for our resilience, support packages for our defense. First and foremost, air defense, long-term funding for Ukraine. Of course, we will also discuss a common perspective, common positions in negotiations,” the president said.

Key Contacts and International Negotiations

According to Zelensky, Ukrainian representatives recently held productive negotiations with a delegation from the U.S. president. Currently, the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, Rustem Umerov, and the Chief of the General Staff, Andriy Hnatov, are heading to Europe for further consultations. The head of state expects detailed information from them about the results of negotiations with American officials in Moscow, as well as possible changes in the U.S. position regarding negotiations with the Russian Federation.

Zelensky noted that there was a constructive, albeit challenging, conversation with U.S. representatives Stephen Witkoff and Jared Kushner. The president emphasized their readiness to work together with Ukraine around the clock, and the American side is well-informed about the main Ukrainian positions.

Negotiations in London and International Reaction

French President Emmanuel Macron announced that on December 8, negotiations will take place in London with Volodymyr Zelensky, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. Macron stressed that Russia “has chosen escalation and is not seeking peace” and condemned the nighttime strikes on Ukraine’s energy and railway infrastructure. He emphasized the need to increase pressure on Moscow to compel it to reach a peaceful resolution.

As Macron noted, the meeting in London will focus on discussing the situation at the front and the progress of consultations involving American mediators.

On December 2, negotiations between U.S. representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner and Vladimir Putin concluded in Moscow regarding the parameters of a possible peace agreement in the war between Russia and Ukraine. Putin’s aide, Yuri Ushakov, stated after the meeting that no compromise has been reached yet, but some American proposals appear acceptable to the Russian side.

Vladimir Putin confirmed that not all points of the American plan were supported by Russia and noted that all points of the peace initiative were discussed in detail during the meeting. However, according to Ushakov, there was no substantive discussion of specific points, and the conversation was more about the general concept of a possible settlement.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga emphasized the positive significance of such negotiations for the peace process. He added that the American side invited the Ukrainian delegation to continue consultations in the U.S. in the near future.

U.S. Ambassador to NATO Matthew Vitaker stated during his speech in Doha that Ukraine and Russia may now be closer to reaching a peace agreement than ever before during the entire period of the full-scale war.
