Activists have uncovered a new issue with road conditions in the capital. Officials from the Kyiv City Council continue to install prohibited “speed bumps,” despite their non-compliance with the requirements of DSTU, making their installation illegal.

This was reported by activists from the public organization “Passengers of Kyiv” on their social media page. They note that, according to information from municipal services, there are no plans to implement “Berlin cushions”—modern devices for reducing vehicle speed—in Kyiv this year.
Drawbacks of Outdated Solutions
Comparing the situation with other cities, activists emphasize the progressive approach of cities like Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Dnipro, Odesa, Chernivtsi, Vinnytsia, and the resort of Bukovel. In contrast, the first “Berlin cushion” in Kyiv appeared only in November 2023, but this innovation has not gained popularity.
Advantages of New Technologies
According to “Passengers of Kyiv,” “Berlin cushions,” unlike “speed bumps,” do not have serious drawbacks, making them more comfortable for vehicles to pass over. This indicates the need to update approaches to the installation of speed reduction measures on the capital’s roads.
