Kyrylo Budanov Appointed to the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine by Zelensky’s Decree

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, has updated the personnel composition of the National Security and Defense Council. The relevant decree was published by the President’s Office on January 6.

Personnel Changes in Top Leadership

According to the decree, Kyrylo Oleksiyovych Budanov has been added to the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, now serving as the head of the President’s Office. Simultaneously, Oleg Ivashchenko has been removed from the National Security and Defense Council.

“To include Kyrylo Oleksiyovych Budanov – Head of the President’s Office of Ukraine – in the personnel composition of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine,” the decree states.

Updates in the Defense Sector and New Appointments

Recently, President Zelensky announced a series of personnel changes in the governing bodies of the state. At the beginning of January, he announced a large-scale “great reset” that will affect the defense sector, the State Bureau of Investigation, as well as the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

As a result of the rotations, Kyrylo Budanov has been appointed head of the President’s Office. Meanwhile, the position of head of the Main Intelligence Directorate has been taken by the former head of the Foreign Intelligence Service, Oleg Ivashchenko. Additionally, Serhiy Kyslytsia has become the first deputy head of the President’s Office after being dismissed from the position of first deputy minister of foreign affairs of Ukraine.
